Brodie’s Boy Places At Kempton – Race Report

Brodie’s Boy delivered a solid performance, securing a third-place finish over one mile four furlongs at Kempton on Friday, 5th September. This result suggests that handicaps of this nature are well within his capabilities.

Sent off at 13/2, Brodie’s Boy made a promising start, though he was a bit keen early on. Jockey Jason Watson did well to settle him in a comfortable position towards the middle of the field. As the race unfolded, Brodie’s Boy gradually lost ground and dropped towards the back, coming under significant pressure from Jason. However, showing an impressive attitude, he responded positively and found plenty in the final stages, staying on strongly to finish a commendable third, just two and a half lengths behind the winner.

After the race, jockey Jason Watson gave us his verdict on the performance:

“I was expecting him to travel into it really nicely and quicken up quite nicely like he did when he won here previously under Kieran O’Neill. He dropped the bridle on me about three or four furlongs out, he went from travelling really well to dropping the lot and I had to pick him back up. You can see we came under pressure going round the bend and then he was staying on really well to the line. I don’t think the step up in trip is necessarily needed but I think he’s probably getting to the point in the race where we relaxed him too much and we need to make sure he’s keeping up that momentum. It’s almost like he got a little bit bored and lonely but he stayed on well and he’s very capable in this grade.”

Trainer Tony Carroll reported following the race:

“Brodie’s Boy ran very well tonight, very pleased with him. It was a step in the right direction, a stop-start race to be honest with you but I thought the jockey gave him a good ride and he ran with credit. There was a lot to take out of the race and he won’t be long about winning to be honest with you, I think we’ll probably start schooling him as well, pop him over a few hurdles. I’ll speak to Tom and connections and we’ll see if he takes to the jumping. I was very pleased with him and I thought he ran very well, it was a step forward and he ran all the way to the line in a competitive race. The pace was a little bit stop-start, but a good performance. So well done everybody, thank you very much and I’m sorry I couldn’t be there. I’ll catch up with you all soon.”

This was another promising performance from Brodie’s Boy, who looks sure to be winning races soon!
