Redbud Sixteen A Good Third At Lingfield – Race Report

Redbud Sixteen delivered another promising performance on just her third start to finish a staying on third at Lingfield on Tuesday 23rd September, finishing two and three quarter lengths behind the winner.

Our filly broke very well from the stalls and jockey Rossa Ryan moved her into a prominent position to share first place with Nutmeg. Redbud Sixteen moved nicely through the contest and asserted just over two furlongs out, taking the lead from Nutmeg who dropped back through the field. Redbud was outpaced by Indian Spirit and Song N Dance but stayed on well when beaten, finishing third. The front three pulled six lengths clear of fourth.

After the race, jockey Rossa Ryan gave us his verdict on the performance:

“She has run a lovely race. She is not a miler, I would say she wants every yard of a mile and a quarter and she might get a mile and a half in time. I just felt I was always trying to drive the gallop on so I wouldn’t get done for toe. One mile and two on soft ground will be no problem. If a bit of rain comes in the next month and she gets a mark around 75, if she can get into a fillies race even better, go from there. She is a good honest filly and will win races in the right grade for sure.”

Assistant trainer Charlie Pike reported the following morning:

“Pleased with her run yesterday, I think she just got tapped for toe in the final few furlongs but a great run, she’ll get a mark now which is good. She’s nice and sound this morning she takes her racing quite well. She’s eaten up well. We’ll make a decision what we will do when she has her mark next Tuesday.”

This was another strong performance from Redbud Sixteen, suggesting it will not be long before she gets her head in front. She will now receive a mark for handicaps where she is sure to give her owners plenty of fun. We look forward to seeing her out again soon!
