Havana Flower A Fantastic Fourth At Haydock – Race Report

Havana Flower delivered a much improved effort to finish an impressive fourth over six furlongs in the 4:15 at Haydock on Friday 17th October.

Sent off at 20/1 against ten rivals, Havana Flower adopted a nice prominent position and travelled well through the race. She was one of the last off the bridle and showed a good cruising speed. She became outpaced around two furlongs out but kept on well to the line for a good fourth in testing conditions. This was a really pleasing display over a trip we expect to be on the short side for her.

After the race, jockey Ray Dawson gave us his verdict on the performance:

“Absolutely delighted with that run, she’s learnt a lot there. She has really enjoyed herself, letting her stride on and she has a bit more speed than I thought. She’s loved the ground, very testing conditions so that is a positive going forward. In fairness to her, she has stuck to it all the way to the line, got a bit tired inside the final hundred yards, which she is entitled to on this ground but I was really happy with her.”

Trainer Roger Varian reported after the race:

“Havana Flower is sound and clean-limbed this morning. I was delighted with her performance, it was promising and a good step forward. I would draw a line through Newmarket and treat this as her first race. She showed a good attitude, behaved very well, broke on terms and travelled comfortably through the first half of the race. Haydock this time of year the stands side rail has an advantage and she raced up the middle of the track so I think we can upgrade her performance by a length or two. I am really pleased with where we are at and we can build on that performance.”

It was very pleasing for everyone at Racing Club to see our filly take such a significant step forward, and we are extremely excited about her future.
