From a difficult draw, our filly once again displayed tremendous determination, producing a huge run and this time getting her head in front in a thrilling finish on Monday 1st December.
Magic Runner was sent off at 14/1 against eleven rivals. She broke smartly from stall twelve, with James Sullivan tucking her into a nice position towards the rear. The well-backed favourite, The Dark Baron, along with three others, set a strong gallop and opened up several lengths on the chasing pack. Magic Runner was given a patient ride, travelling comfortably throughout. As the field turned for home, the early pace inevitably took its toll, with those who had raced prominently beginning to weaken and drifting back towards the rest. This set the race up perfectly for Magic Runner, who was guided expertly through a gap down the inside rail. Finishing strongest of all, she swept past numerous rivals to score by half a length, with Token Love in second.
After the race, jockey James Sullivan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“She didn’t have a good draw, she jumped well and there was plenty of pace on. I just slotted in as I couldn’t get in anywhere else. She travelled round nicely, they were going plenty quick enough. We made good ground round the bend, I was filling her up coming round and she finished off very well and was very game. Well done everyone!”
Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :
“Magic Runner is fine this morning, out in the field in the sunshine after her amazing win last night. We were delighted with how that panned out, loads of pace which played into our hands. Well done everybody and we’ll look forward to seeing her out soon.”
This was an exceptional performance, and we’re delighted to see Magic finally get her head in front after so many encouraging placed efforts. Her owners enjoyed a fantastic evening, cheering her home in such an exciting finish, and there should be plenty more memorable days out to look forward to in the near future.
