After a couple of lesser efforts in races that didn’t play to his strengths, Brodie’s Boy delivered a pleasing third at the midlands venue on Monday 16th February.
He was sent off at 7/1 against seven rivals and broke well from stall six under Oisin McSweeney. He settled nicely in midfield, disputing third as the eventual runner-up Zenato kicked on to make the running, opening up a lead of around three lengths. Zenato set an even tempo before injecting more pace into the contest at the halfway stage. As the field reached the end of the back straight, three furlongs from home, Brodie’s Boy travelled strongly while several others came under pressure. He was pushed along to challenge two furlongs out and the front three pulled clear. Our five-year-old lacked the pace to get involved at the finish but galloped on well to the line to take third.
After the race, jockey Oisin McSweeney gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He jumped out well into a nice position, we’ve gone a nice even gallop the whole way. The horse at the front wanted to make it a test of stamina and we travelled into it really nicely. Just the pace at the end caught us out really.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported following the race :
“This was another good run. He has come out of the race well. We will just have him looked at as he isn’t finishing his races as strongly as we would like.”
Brodie’s Boy ran a very nice race and travelled strongly throughout. It was a much-improved performance, and hopefully he can build on it next time. His owners enjoyed a fantastic evening at Wolverhampton and can look forward to many more to come.
