After another brilliant Cheltenham Festival, we now have Uttoxeter’s big day to look forward to. Following a successful week for the Skelton brothers, we’re sticking with a similar theme for this weekend’s tips.
13:50 Uttoxeter – WEST TO THE BRIDGE (10/1 Generally) Each Way
As we were reminded this week in the Cotswolds, the Skeltons are masters of the handicap races. Madara jumped superbly to bolt up in the Plate on Tuesday, while Supremely West made light work of a big field in the Pertemps on Thursday. They could strike again in the competitive opening handicap on Midlands Grand National Day at Uttoxeter with WEST TO THE BRIDGE. It’s a race they have won for the last two years and he is sure to be well prepared for the occasion.
He is now thirteen, which wouldn’t usually be ideal, but he looks well treated on his old form. He was given a positive ride by Harry to win over this trip at Chepstow in this grade, with the first two pulling around twelve lengths clear of the rest of the field. The runner-up has since run well in a decent handicap at Kempton, while the third had already won at Worcester and Cheltenham earlier in the season. At a double figure price, he looks a solid each-way option in the hope he can dominate from the front once again.
16:10 Uttoxeter – KADASTRAL (9/4 Generally)
There look to be some nice horses lining up for this 2m3f Novices’ Hurdle and Seaniecon is one I have been following closely this season. However, I suspect they may all struggle to contain KADASTRAL, who could prove to be a class above this field. He has been set some tough assignments this season, including taking on Sober Glory, who ran a huge race in the opening contest at Cheltenham on Tuesday. Although beaten twenty-seven lengths by him into second at Newbury, Kadastral shaped much better than the bare result suggests and still looked a major threat three furlongs from home.
He had previously won easily at the same venue and his bumper form also reads very well. He beat Talk The Talk by three and a half lengths, who has since gone on to win a Grade 1 and ran at Cheltenham this week, while third-placed Klub De Reve has since won a Grade 2.At the time of writing, the forecast odds for the Skelton runner look very generous and I think he will prove very difficult to beat.
