How to Get to Exeter Racecourse

Arriving by Car

Exeter Racecourse is located just off the A38 between Exeter and Plymouth, approximately five miles from the end of the M5 southbound. The racecourse is clearly signposted from all directions, although visitors should be aware of the sharp turn shortly after the brow of Haldon Hill.

Enter EX6 7XS into your sat nav. Traffic can build up around major meetings, so visitors are advised to arrive early and allow additional time when leaving the racecourse.

Parking is free at every race fixture. Parking is mainly on grass and some areas may be uneven. Accessible parking is available near the Haldon Stand, providing convenient access to the stand’s lifts and accessible facilities. A valid Blue Badge should be displayed clearly in the vehicle.

The racecourse also has six electric-vehicle charging points, comprising two 75kW rapid chargers and four fast chargers.

Arriving by Train

Exeter St Davids is the nearest principal railway station. Direct services operate from London Paddington, with the journey taking approximately two hours.

A complimentary coach service operates between Exeter St Davids and the racecourse on racedays. Places are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and visitors should check the relevant event page for the latest departure times.

Arriving by Bus

Stagecoach service 39 runs between Exeter Bus Station and Newton Abbot via Exeter Racecourse. The racecourse stop is situated near the Brightside restaurant on the A38.

Visitors returning towards Exeter should use the designated return stop near the services and should not attempt to cross the A38. Racecourse staff can provide directions if required.

Arriving by Taxi or Air

Depending on traffic, a taxi from Exeter city centre or Exeter St Davids usually takes approximately 25 minutes. Visitors are advised to pre-book their return taxi to avoid delays after racing.

Exeter International Airport is approximately a 15-minute drive from the racecourse. Helicopters may land at the course on racedays with prior permission from the racecourse.

Where to Get Tickets

Tickets can be purchased online before your visit. Advance booking is recommended to secure the best available price and reduce the time needed to enter the racecourse.

Tickets may also be available at the racecourse on the day, provided the fixture has not sold out. Walk-up ticket purchases are cashless, so visitors should bring a suitable payment card.

Under-18s receive free admission to Exeter Racecourse, although they must be accompanied by a responsible adult in accordance with the racecourse’s admission policy.

Exeter Racecourse offers accessible facilities, including accessible parking, step-free access, viewing areas and accessible toilets. Eligible visitors can also apply for one complimentary personal-assistant or companion ticket.

Exeter Racecourse operates with one main General Admission enclosure, giving racegoers access to the principal grandstand and racecourse facilities.

Hospitality

Visitors looking to upgrade their raceday can choose from Exeter’s hospitality options, including private boxes and restaurant packages.

The Desert Orchid Restaurant offers a more relaxed dining experience with excellent views of the racecourse. Hospitality packages vary by fixture and should be booked in advance.

What to Wear

Exeter Racecourse encourages visitors to come “dressed to feel your best”. There is no strict general dress code, so racegoers can choose anything from a smart suit or glamorous dress to clean trainers, jeans and a comfortable sweatshirt.

Whatever you choose to wear, comfort and confidence are the most important considerations. Visitors should also check the weather forecast and bring suitable layers or an umbrella, as many areas of the racecourse are uncovered.

Fancy dress is permitted, provided it is not inappropriate, offensive or likely to cause disruption. Visitors are also asked not to wear football shirts or other team kits.

Food and Drink

Exeter Racecourse offers a selection of bars, restaurant facilities and food concessions. General Admission visitors can access the food court and its range of concessions, while pre-booked dining is available through the racecourse’s hospitality packages.

The racecourse operates on a cashless basis for its bars, restaurants and concessions. Cash can still be used for betting with on-course bookmakers and the Tote.

Visitors may not bring their own food or drink into the main enclosure or stands unless permission has been granted in advance. Exceptions may be made for allergies, intolerances or medical requirements, but visitors should contact the racecourse before attending.

Baby and toddler food is permitted. The racecourse can also cater for special dietary requirements in its private hospitality suites and the Desert Orchid Restaurant when sufficient notice is provided.
