Letmelivemylife made another pleasing performance on Saturday to finish fourth in his race at Kempton, giving another indication that he should hopefully be returning to the winner’s enclosure soon.
Having been well backed before the race into 4/1 third favourite, he started well and managed to move across into a prominent position from his wide draw in stall 7. He was a bit keen in the early stages but did eventually settle and travelled well, before jockey Kieran O’Neill asked him for his effort around two furlongs out. After a suitable gap presented itself in front of him, he looked to be coming through to mount a serious challenge, but unfortunately his early exertions seemed to take their toll and he lost third place in the final stages.

Jockey Kieran O’Neill said after the race:
“With the pace coming from stall 8 next to me, it allowed me to follow, slot into third, and get a lovely run into the race. Coming into the straight, I thought he had plenty left in the engine and thought he would win, but he just didn’t seem to kick on. It’s like he was in third gear but didn’t want to go into fourth gear. I feel the best move now would be to drop him back to six furlongs and put him in blinkers. He’s a horse with plenty of ability, and when everything clicks he’ll win again and again.”
The morning after the race, trainer Barry Brennan reported:
“He ate up everything so he is really well. We’ll go again in 2-3 weeks, and make a decision on what trip to aim him at, as well as possibly adding headgear to him too.”
Lemmy has shown multiple times this season that he still retains plenty of ability, and it’s surely only a matter of time before he gets his head in front again. Fingers crossed!
