Solid Effort From Brodie’s Boy To Finish Runner-Up At Newcastle – Race Report

Brodie’s Boy put in an excellent performance to finish runner-up at Newcastle on Tuesday 17th December, only finding the joint-favourite too good on this occasion.

Having been well backed throughout the day, he went off as a 5/1 shot, breaking well out of the stalls and sitting in midfield in the early stages of the race. Having raced slightly keen through the initial stages of the race, jockey Kieran O’Neill got him into a nice rhythm and started to make headway as they entered the final three furlongs. He quickly progressed past his rivals to press the leader Sol Cayo with a couple of furlongs to go, but the eventual winner saw out the final couple of furlongs stronger. Brodie’s Boy still finished comfortably clear of the remainder of the field, in what was a highly encouraging performance.

After the race, jockey Kieran O’Neill gave us his summary:

“He’s run a nice race there, I was really pleased with his performance. He travelled sweetly throughout the race and was in the right position, sneaking up onto the rail nicely as we got into the straight. I think we just bumped into one today.”

Trainer Paul Attwater gave us an update on Brodie’s Boy the following morning, reporting:

“That was much more like it from Brodie’s Boy, he just bumped into one who was well handicapped. It was encouraging to see him run all the way to the line, and I think the cheekpieces certainly helped with that. He’s perfectly well in himself this morning, trotted up sound and ate all his breakfast, so that’s good to see.”

This was certainly a step in the right direction for Brodie’s Boy and we can’t wait to see him back out in action again in 2025!
