Tiny Rebel put in an excellent performance to finish fifth on handicap debut at Chelsmford Racecourse on Thursday 9th January, leaving the impression a win is just around the corner.
Off an opening handicap mark of 60, the Newlands team were optimistic Tiny Rebel could put in an improved performance on handicap debut against a similar level of opposition, and having been sent off a 25/1 outsider, he started well and got into a good rhythm in the early stages of the race. He took an early bump from a rival and had to drop into midfield, which didn’t help his chances, but he stayed on strongly in the final stages to finish four lengths off the winner, and only a length behind the third-placed horse Majestic Heights.
After the race, jockey Kieran O’Neill gave us his summary:
“”I thought he ran a nice race. He travelled nicely throughout the race and I think it’s just inexperience that cost him his chance today. He feels like a nice horse and he should definitely be winning races in the future.”
Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:
“I was really pleased with his run last night. I felt he battled on well in the final stages and should come on for that experience. He’s come out of the race perfectly fine and eaten up his breakfast this morning so that’s great, and I’m looking forward to his next race already.”
This was certainly a step in the right direction for Tiny Rebel and hopefully it won’t be long until he’s entering the winners enclosure!
