Blue Sky Boy Puts In Huge Effort To Finish Runner-Up At Chelmsford – Race Report

Having raced just four days earlier, Blue Sky Boy put in a huge effort to finish runner-up in a valuable race at Chelmsford on Saturday 11th January.

After a strong showing to finish third at Wolverhampton on Tuesday, Blue Sky Boy broke well out of the stalls on Saturday and led throughout the majority of the race. He had his rivals under pressure as they entered the home straight, and it was only the short-priced favourite Carlton who managed to reel him in at the dying stages. It was a huge performance from Blue Sky Boy though, who finished well clear of the remainder of the field and continues to improve with each run.

After the race, jockey Trevor Whelan gave us his summary:

“I think he ran a cracking race there. He got into a lovely rhythm out in front and he travelled really well throughout the race. He battled all the way to the line but he just bumped into one who is firmly on the upgrade. He only four days earlier and this was a more competitive race, so I think he deserves plenty of credit for that effort.”

Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:

“I thought that was a cracking run. We were unlucky to not hold on, but the horse who beat him has won his last four now, so is clearly in top form. Blue Sky has come out of the race well, trotted sound and eaten up everything as usual, which is good. He does have an entry at Kempton next week, but we’ll see how he is this week before making a final decision on that one.”

Blue Sky Boy continues to impress with each run under his belt, and with a potential entry at Kempton later this month, we’re hopeful he can go one better and get his first win!
