Lightningboltzoom made a promising to start to live with Racing Club VIP, finishing runner-up on handicap debut at Southwell on Wednesday 15th January.
In his first race for almost two months, Lightningboltzoom started brightly, breaking out of the stalls well and getting into a prominent position in the early stages of the race. Jockey Eddie Greatrex had him settled just behind the leaders through the majority of the race, and one reaching the three-furlong marker, he started to make nice headway against the front runners. He pulled clear with two others in the final stages, with The Bay Warrior timing his effort well to finish half a length ahead of our runner, with Risen Again a head behind in third.
After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave us his summary:
“I thought he ran a blinder and was a bit unlucky not to win. He travelled great through the race and I did think we’d put the race to bed, but he’s just been done by a bit of a speed by the winner. This galloping track suited him well, and I’d personally step him up in trip to a mile-and-a-half. I’m confident he’ll win soon enough.”
Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:
“I was extremely pleased with his effort yesterday. Considering that was his first run in almost two months, to only get chinned on the line was a huge effort. He’s perfectly fine in himself this morning, eaten up his breakfast and trotted out sound. We’ll look to get him back out again in the next few weeks and look at stepping up to a mile-and-a-half trip.”
We were delighted with Lightningboltzoom’s handicap debut and we can’t wait to see him back out in the coming weeks, where fingers crossed he can go one better!
