Rory’s Gold Returns To Action At Wolverhampton – Race Report

Rory’s Gold made his return to action at Wolverhampton on Saturday 26th April, finishing seventh and giving the indication he needed the run after a 113-day break.

Sent off as a 17/2 shot, Rory’s was a little slow out of the stalls but quickly got into the mix with the other runners. He raced wide and was keen throughout the race, which certainly didn’t help his chances, and eventually finished seventh, seven lengths behind the winner Riyadh Gem. It’s worth remembering this was his first race after a 113-day break, during which he was also gelded, so he will come on for the run and should be much more competitive next time out.

After the race, jockey Thomas Greatrex gave us his verdict on the performance:

“He jumped off a bit sluggish, but I gave him a bit of a bump and he really latched on then. He’ll stay this trip fine, he’s just had a really good blow. He’ll come on plenty for that run and he’s definitely on a workable mark.”

Assistant Trainer Charlie Pike reported the following morning:

“It wasn’t the ideal run last night, as he was trapped out wide throughout the race and he was just a bit free, which didn’t make things easier for his jockey! He had a good blow though, and he’ll come on plenty for the run.”

With this run now under his belt, we can’t wait to see Rory’s Gold back in action soon, with a turf debut hopefully not too far away!
