Unknown Journey put in another promising performance on what was his second start for trainer Tony Carroll, finishing fourth at Kempton on Wednesday 25th June.
Having been slowly away out of the stalls, jockey Matthew Lloyd Slater had to settle him towards the rear of the field, which was slightly further back than he had hoped. Having held his position throughout the early stages of the races, he made good headway through the field with two furlongs to go, before staying on well in the final stages to eventually finish fourth.
After the race, jockey Matthew Lloyd Slater gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He was a bit slow out of the stalls, and he got a bit outpaced in the early stages. It didn’t take him long to get into his stride, and he stayed on strongly again at the finish. I think he’s crying out for the step up to a mile, and once we do that, I think we’ll see the best of him.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following morning:
“He’s come out of the race in good order and he’s absolutely fine this morning, which is great. I was really pleased with his performance yesterday, and I’m pretty sure that once we step him up in trip and get him back on suitable ground on the turf, he’ll be very competitive. I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun with him throughout his career.”
This was another step in the right direction for Unknown Journey, and it gives us plenty to get excited about moving forward!
