Rory’s Gold Runs Well To Finish Fourth At Kempton – Race Report

Rory’s Gold put in a pleasing performance as he dropped back in trip to finish fourth at Kempton on Wednesday 9th July, giving the impression that he isn’t far away from winning soon and giving his owners plenty to get excited about moving forward.

Sent off at 25/1, Rory’s Gold broke smartly from the stalls, with jockey Trevor Whelan opting to let him settle towards the rear of the field. As the race began to unfold around the three-furlong marker, he responded well when asked for an effort, making eye-catching headway through the pack and picking off rivals one by one. Entering the final two furlongs, he looked poised to lay down a serious challenge to the eventual winner, Bear Island. While he just began to tire in the closing stages, he still held on gamely to finish a very creditable fourth – massively outrunning his odds in the process.

After the race, jockey Trevor Whelan gave us his verdict on the performance:

“I was really happy with that performance. I slotted him in nicely towards the rear of the field, and he travelled well through the race. I followed the favourite into the straight, and he picked up really well when I asked him to go. I expect he will come on for the run, and he’s starting to show a bit of speed – I expect he will be even more competitive next time.”

Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:

“I was delighted with his performance last night. He did what we needed him to do, finishing off the race nice and strong, which he’s failed to do in his last couple of races. It was a great effort, and I’m looking forward to seeing him back out in action again soon.”

This was certainly a step in the right direction for Rory’s Gold, and hopefully it won’t be much longer until he’s enjoying a first career success!
