Dayzee Wins Decisively At Newbury – Race Report

Dayzee put in a huge performance to run out a comfortable winner at Newbury on Thursday 10th July, giving her owners plenty to look forward to in the future.

Having been slowly away, jockey Eddie Greatrex settled her towards the rear of the field, allowing her to get into her rhythm. She stayed towards the rear throughout the majority of the race, before making her move with just over two furlongs to go. She had to switch right to get racing room, but once she got in the clear she made rapid headway to get past her rivals and pulled clear, eventually finishing over three lengths clear of the runner-up Giselles Defence.

After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave his verdict on the performance:

“That was a lovely performance from Dayzee. She had cheekpieces on for the first time, which definitely seemed to help, and she travelled nicely into the race. Once I asked her for her effort, I always felt she was in control of the race and the way she pulled clear of her rivals proved that. She’s won off a higher mark previously so hopefully she can follow up next time.”

Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:

“She’s come out of the race in good order and trotted out sound this morning, which is great news. That was a fantastic performance last night, and it’s the sort of effort we knew she was capable of. She shows us plenty at home, and I’m pleased she managed to put it all together on the racecourse for her owners. We’ve changed tactics with her slightly at home and it certainly seems to have paid off. We’ll look to get her back out again soon and hopefully she can follow up, as she’s still well handicapped on some of her previous form.”

It’s onwards and upwards now for Dayzee, who gave her owners a fantastic evening at Newbury – the first of many more wins hopefully!
