A Path To Ronda Digs Deep For Kelso Victory – Race Report

A Path To Ronda showed her customary grit and determination to triumph under a penalty at the Scottish Borders track on the 28th February.

Our mare, the highest rated runner in the field, was sent off the well fancied 1/10 favourite against seven rivals. She travelled smoothly in third, jumping cleanly while tracking the leaders throughout. She moved closer at the end of the back straight and was upsides jumping the final flight down the back. Taking it up along the side of the course, Gavin Sheehan gradually increased the tempo turning for home with two left to jump. She does not always relish hitting the front too soon and began to idle, allowing Change My Luck to press her and jump the last marginally in front. A strong battle followed on the run in, but A Path To Ronda responded gamely under Gavin Sheehan, rallying to regain the advantage and score by three quarters of a length.

After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:

“Brilliant result in the end, at that price people expect her to do it a bit more stylishly but she had to fight. A lot of that is down to the pace over two miles, we had to go on early enough and were always there to be shot at. She was brave over the last two and battled all the way to the line. You have to consider she’s better over further and we were flat out most of the way. It was a good, game performance and you have to love her attitude.”

Trainer Jamie Snowden reported after the race:

“She got the job done, she doesn’t like being in front for too long and idled a bit, giving us a scare but she actually won going away when the other horse got in front and gave us something to aim at. We got away with it, two miles, left handed isn’t ideal. Now we can go for the Grade 1 at Fairyhouse over Easter.”

This was a tremendously brave performance from A Path To Ronda, who once again showcased her outstanding attitude to get back in front when it mattered most. She is a hugely exciting mare, and we are very much looking forward to seeing her step up to Grade 1 company at Fairyhouse next.
