After stringing some positive performances together, Brodie’s Boy could never feature from a wide berth at Lingfield on Monday 8th December.
He was sent off at 4/1 against eight rivals and broke well from stall eight, but Marco Ghiani was unable to find a gap to switch inside, leaving him posted widest throughout in midfield. Asked to quicken around three furlongs from home, he soon began to weaken and faded into ninth, likely paying the price for having to cover extra ground.
After the race, jockey Marco Ghiani gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He jumped quick, but wasn’t very quick into stride today. We went a decent gallop at first but then slowed down. Today it just felt like I was flat out all the way, I know we were three wide but I did expect him to run better than that. He was always behind the bridle and when I asked him to pick up he never really found much. He just didn’t run to form today.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported following the race :
“Very disappointing today. He was caught four wide and didn’t look quite comfortable. We were hoping to get him up there and get him in but we couldn’t position him where we wanted. He didn’t pick up in the straight so maybe he isn’t quite right. I have spoken to the team there and they said he is fine and there didn’t appear to be any issues with him. It is a bit of a head-scratcher as he’s been running very well as you all know.”
We are sure Brodie’s Boy will bounce back to form in the near future and look forward to seeing him back on the racecourse soon.
