Once again, our filly was dealt an unfavourable draw but still delivered a strong performance on Saturday, 13th December, competing in a higher grade from a 3lb higher mark.
Magic Runner was sent off at 14/1 against eleven rivals. Breaking well from stall ten, James Sullivan settled her towards the rear of the field. As the race developed, she had to wait for room to challenge, allowing those with more favourable draws and better early positions to get first run on her. Once switched to challenge down the inside rail, she showed her customary game attitude, passing several rivals, but was unable to reel in the leaders. She finished a close fourth, just a length behind both second and third.
After the race, jockey James Sullivan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“I couldn’t really get in anywhere so we had to just try for luck. To be fair when we turned in the gaps opened up and she picked up well. She is holding her form well so when things go right she can hopefully win again.”
Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :
“Magic Runner is fine this morning, she is out in the field. It was another good run from 3lb higher in a slightly higher grade race. We will probably go back to Wolverhampton when we find the right race.”
This was another really pleasing run, with Magic once again showing a fantastic attitude and, as James noted, holding her form very well. It was another great day out for her brilliant owners, and we look forward to seeing her back on the racecourse soon.
