Unknown Journey stepped up from his previous display, finishing strongly for seventh on Monday 12th January.
He was sent off at 22/1 in a competitive ten-runner field. Breaking well from stall nine, William Carson slotted him in just worse than midfield, finding cover as the field settled into stride. He raced a little keenly and was not the easiest to contain through the early stages. With three furlongs to run the tempo lifted and William asked Unknown Journey to edge closer, but he was briefly outpaced and couldn’t get involved with those disputing the finish. However, he stayed on strongly in the closing stages to make late headway and finish a respectable seventh.
After the race, jockey William Carson gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He seems to want a stiff finish over the mile, maybe Wolverhampton over one mile and one furlong. If he was nice and fresh going into the grass, Tony could win with him at somewhere like Brighton or Bath, where they’ll go quick and he can finish strong.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following day:
“He ran ok and galloped through the line to finish his race off well. The middle of the race wasn’t quite run to suit and they outgunned him down the hill and round the bend. I think the trip is fine but he needs a different track, he needs to be ridden that way but needs a longer straight. I think Southwell will suit him better, a longer straight that gives him more chance to get going. He’s fine this morning. He has eaten up and he’s a tough and sound little horse so we’ll keep going with him.”
Unknown Journey finished his race off well and showed promise for the future. We’re looking forward to seeing him back on the track again soon.
