On her first start for Racing Club and Ruth Carr, Magic Runner ran a huge race at Wolverhampton , finishing a neck second over a distance of one mile, one and a half furlongs on Saturday 6th September.
Sent off at 10/1 against nine rivals, Magic Runner broke sharply from stall six and settled comfortably in third, holding a good position along the inside rail travelling smoothly under Billy Garritty. As the pace increased three furlongs out , Magic Runner quickened nicely to stay in touch with the leaders and kept on well inside the final furlong , only losing out by a neck late on.
After the race, jockey Billy Garritty gave us his verdict on the performance:
“She travelled well round, we went at an even pace. We were able to get into a good rhythm. When we turned in it was me and the winner in a battle, head to head in a ride to the line. She battled on well , we’ll have plenty of fun with her and she’ll win races. It was a great start for team Ruth Carr.”
Trainer Ruth Carr reported following the race:
“I was delighted with Magic’s run last night – I thought Billy gave her a very nice ride and got her settled well. He did say she will probably always run a little bit gassy, but it was very pleasing.
She’s out in the field now enjoying some down time with a couple of her friends, which she thoroughly deserves. Billy also said he felt he would possibly ride her a place further back in the future, but I didn’t particularly think that when watching the race – I felt he gave her a lovely ride. She had every chance and the winner was just a bit better than us on the day.
Overall, it was a very pleasing performance on her stable debut for us and I look forward to her next outing, which will likely be in around three weeks time.”
A hugely encouraging effort from Magic Runner, and it looks only a matter of time before she gets her head in front. Plenty for her owners to look forward to!
