Following some promising performances at Wolverhampton , Magic Runner didn’t quite see out the 1m 4f at Kempton on Wednesday 8th September.
She drifted to a starting price of 50/1 and faced thirteen rivals. As ever, she broke smartly from the stalls, adopting a position at the rear of the field. She made some progress three furlongs out but was caught quite far back and couldn’t get involved in the closing stages , finishing thirteenth.
After the race, jockey Lewis Edmunds gave us his verdict on the performance:
“They haven’t gone overly quick and she has probably just over-raced, she did travel into it well and if she had of been able to pick up and finish she would have run a nice enough race. It felt like she probably didn’t quite stay a mile and a half round here and it might be worth coming back to a mile and a quarter at a pace track where they go an even gallop. ”
Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :
“She trotted up fine this morning and has eaten up. It was obviously disappointing , I agree with Lewis and she didn’t look to stay even though she has run well over course and distance before. There could be a race at Wolverhampton for her in the next few weeks and we will look at that.”
Things didn’t go Magic Runner’s way on Wednesday, but she has shown clear signs of ability. We are confident she’ll be back on the podium before long. We look forward to seeing her back on the track soon!
