Magic Runner was not seen to best effect at Wolverhampton on Tuesday 10th March, in a race that didn’t play to her strengths.
Magic Runner faced eight rivals and was sent off at 9/1. She broke well from stall five and James Sullivan elected to settle her towards the rear of the field, with the early pace on the stronger side. She travelled smoothly through the opening stages, but as the race developed the tempo steadied approaching the end of the back straight and into the turn for home. Caught further back than ideal and carried wide as the race began to unfold, those in more prominent positions fought out the finish, while our filly kept on at the same pace in the closing stages for seventh.
After the race, jockey James Sullivan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“I was further back than I wanted to be, but they were going a nice pace early on so I didn’t mind too much. They steadied it up and I got carried out a little bit and she didn’t get the pace she needed throughout.”
Trainer Ruth Carr reported the following morning :
“Things didn’t go quite right for her last night but it is still a bit disappointing. She has been on the go for a long time so maybe she needs a rest. She is fine this morning and we will see what the next few days bring.”
Things didn’t quite fall right for Magic Runner on this occasion, but as she has shown before, she is more than capable of bouncing back and we’re confident she will do so. Her owners still enjoyed another great evening at Wolverhampton.
