Unknown Journey delivered his most impressive run to date, losing out narrowly on the 25th February.
He lined up against seven rivals and went off at 12/1. Breaking sharply from stall eight, he raced a little keenly in the early stages before settling nicely just behind the leaders in a tightly packed field.Just over two furlongs from home, the favourite and eventual winner, First Encounter, quickened and gained first run on the rest. Unknown Journey responded gamely to William Carson’s urgings and finished strongly to take a clear second, beaten just half a length.
After the race, jockey William Carson gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He ran very well, we did what we wanted to really, sat in behind the horse to beat. Turning in I thought we had enough to go and get him. He probably just pulled out a little bit more, but he is in good form. Our horse is running into form now and that’s the way to ride him, a little bit more forward over the mile.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported after the race:
“We are getting close again! A great run from Unknown Journey, I thought we were going to win for a second and he will win, he is getting closer. It was a good ride and a good effort. The right horse has beaten him in the favourite. He ran all the way to the line and I’m very pleased with him. William gave him a great ride and got him up there where we wanted him.”
This was a superb performance from Unknown Journey, his best to date, and it suggests that a win for us is not far away. His owners enjoyed another fantastic day at Lingfield and can look forward to many more exciting days out in the weeks ahead.
