Unknown Journey made a positive start on the 25th March but couldn’t hold his position and found it difficult to make an impact in the home straight.
Unknown Journey, sent off at 10/1, took on eight rivals in a competitive mile handicap. Breaking sharply from stall five under Marco Ghiani, he raced prominently early on but was soon joined by two runners disputing the lead, which appeared to light him up and cause him to race keenly. Marco then settled him in behind the pace, where he travelled more comfortably. He looked to be mounting a challenge approaching the two-furlong marker, but his early exertions told late on and he weakened to finish eighth.
After the race, jockey Marco Ghiani gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He jumped really well, was nice and settled early on but the one on the outside was trying to push us on which lit him up and he was going too quick. He didn’t finish the last furlong today and we got racing a bit soon.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following day:
“Unknown Journey ran ok for a long way. We wanted him to be handy but he got taken on for the lead and raced too keenly. It didn’t work out for him, he over-raced and didn’t make it home. He’s fine this morning and we will try and get him back to Lingfield where he is at his best.”
Unknown Journey was unable to get involved on this occasion despite a promising start, but we remain confident he can bounce back to his best soon. His owners still enjoyed a great evening in the Owners & Trainers facility, along with the opportunity to see Constitution Hill in action.
