Unknown Journey Not Suited by Wolverhampton Contest – Race Report

Unknown Journey was unable to back up his impressive Lingfield second at Wolverhampton on Tuesday 10th March.

Unknown Journey, sent off at 9/1, faced eleven rivals in the final race on the card. He broke sharply from stall three and William Carson encouraged him early to take up a good position along the inside rail, tracking the leaders. He appeared well placed to play a part in the finish, but around four furlongs from home he began to lose his position as a few rivals moved past and he came under pressure from William. He kept on at the same pace in the closing stages to finish seventh.

After the race, jockey William Carson gave us his verdict on the performance:

“He has ran well in the circumstances. They have gone slow down the back and he has just galloped home. He needs a galloping scenario at this trip, where it is more of a test. We got a good position today but got a bit stuck and couldn’t go anywhere. He will be more suited on the grass with an even tempo on a galloping track.”

Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following day:

“Unknown Journey is fine this morning, he ran ok. The track doesn’t suit him really, it got a bit tactical and he’s not quick enough to get himself out of trouble. He likes Lingfield and I will see if I can find something there for him. There is a race at Kempton over a mile possibly for him.”

Unknown Journey didn’t quite get the race run to suit on this occasion, but he has shown enough in the past to suggest he can leave this effort behind. We’re confident there will be better days ahead, and his owners still enjoyed another enjoyable evening at Wolverhampton.
