Despite some promising headway through the middle part of the race Unknown Journey was unable to sustain his challenge in the closing stages at Southwell on Friday 24th November, finishing tenth.
Unknown Journey was well-backed, sent off at 10/3 against nine rivals, but faced a challenge from his wide draw in stall eleven. He broke smartly and raced keenly on the outer, struggling to find cover in the early stages. Making eye-catching headway down the outside, his early exertions may have taken their toll as he was unable to finish strongly, weakening from around two furlongs out. The race was won by Heretic.
After the race, jockey Marco Giani gave us his verdict on the performance:
“I tried to drop him in and get some cover but the one on my tail was quite keen and pushed me out the way and he didn’t settle. He became a bit unbalanced. From the three to the one and a half he picked up nicely but then he just got tired.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following morning:
“It obviously didn’t go to plan to be honest, far from it. I was very frustrated and disappointed. We live to fight another day, the horse is fine, no problem. He just really, really wants riding with patience and just settled, then he’ll be fine.”
We are certain Unknown Journey will be able to bounce back and deliver on the promise he has shown. We look forward to seeing him back on course soon!
