Blackwaterfoot struggled in very testing conditions in the three year old handicap on Thursday 23rd October, finishing thirteenth.
Blackwaterfoot lined up against fourteen rivals and was sent off at 28/1. He broke nicely from stall 16 under jockey Eddie Greatrex. He raced relatively wide and was never better than midfield. For a mile and a quarter contest on heavy ground the pace was a generous one and many horses struggled to land a blow, including Blackwaterfoot who never seemed comfortable. The winner Velvet Whisper made all, with the field well strung out, similar to some of the other races at Nottingham on the day.
After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave us his verdict on the performance:
“I was happy for probably a furlong, If I am honest he wasn’t moving great, he wasn’t stretching and was just really struggling.”
Assistant trainer Charlie Pike reported the following morning:
“He’s not the horse we know, something is not quite firing. The vet checked him over at the races, they were happy with him. He was sore this morning and I would say he has picked up a little niggle somewhere. We will let him chill out this weekend and we will find out what is bothering him on Monday, he’s happy in himself and has eaten up.”
This run was certainly not a true reflection of Blackwaterfoot’s ability. With Paul and Charlie’s careful attention, we’re confident he’ll soon bounce back to show his best.
