A Path To Ronda put in a mightily impressive performance to win on hurdling debut at Stratford on Thursday 30th October, running out an easy five and a half length winner.
Having been well supported in the betting, Ronda was sent off as the even money favourite for her hurdles debut, and she travelled well during the early stages, sitting behind the front-runners First Candidate and Followango, who opened up a healthy lead by the halfway stage of the race. With two hurdles left to jump, jockey Gavin Sheehan asked Ronda to close the gap on the front-runners, and she duly obliged in some style, quickly catching and overtaking the pair. Once hitting the front, the result was never in doubt, eventually winning eased down by over five lengths.
After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“She was absolutely brilliant – for a horse to perform like that on hurdles debut and make it all seem effortless, it was a perfect performance. I could tell after jumping two out that we needed to close the gap on the two in front, but she did it so easily and didn’t take much to get past them and win the race. Trip and ground was fine – I think two-and-a-half would be her best trip moving forward.”
Trainer Jamie Snowden reported after the race:
“That was a wonderful performance. I thought she jumped really well for a novice, having only had one schooling session on grass. She travelled well through the race – they went off plenty hard in front, but she settled nicely in behind and she made up the ground really easily. I’m really excited for the season ahead with her – she looks a horse we could target the Jane Seymour with – I’ve won that race three times in the last five years and she’s very much in the mould of a horse that could do the same.”
After such an impressive debut, we cannot wait to see A Path To Ronda back in action – she’s sure to give her owners plenty of great days out as an owner!
