Another Gallant Effort From Farceur Du Large – Race Report 04/05/24

Farceur Du Large put in another excellent effort to finish fourth at Uttoxeter on Saturday, staying on in typically strong fashion at the finish.

The ground was slightly better than he would have liked, and it could well have been the case this was one race to many for ‘Frank The Tank’, but he gave it his all yet again and raced with plenty of credit. Sent off a 13/2 shot, he started well and was up with the leaders in the early stages of the race. A mistake over the tenth fence did cost him some crucial momentum, and he quickly found himself towards the rear of the field and detached from the other runners. However, he never gave up and stayed on strongly during the final stages to finish fourth, which was a gallant effort considering how far behind he was at some stages of the race.

Jockey Gavin Sheehan said after the race:

“I got him in a great position jumping off and I was delighted with how he started. He jumped great and did everything right, but coming out on the last circuit he put down on me over one fence, which put him behind and meant we had to chase much earlier than I would’ve liked. The other runners started picking up the pace and he actually did very well to finish how he did, staying on powerfully all the way to the line to run into fourth place. The ground wasn’t ideal for him, and if we had slower ground, he would’ve undoubtedly put in a much better performance.”

The morning after the race, trainer Jamie Snowden reported:

“He’s trotted up all well and sound this morning, which is great. He does have a few small superficial cuts behind, but nothing to worry about. He lost 16kg, but he ate all his supper last night and has had a nice pick of grass in the sun this morning.”

It was another brilliant effort from FDL, and although the ground was better than ideal, he came out of the race with plenty of credit and fully deserves his summer break, before coming back stronger next season.
