Blackwaterfoot Eighth At Wolverhampton – Race Report

After a small setback, Blackwaterfoot returned to the racecourse with an eighth place finish at Wolverhampton on Saturday 20th September.

Blackwaterfoot lined up against ten rivals in terrible weather conditions on Saturday evening, where he was sent off at 15/2. Having broke out of stall 2 nicely, jockey Pierre-Louis Jamin settled him towards the rear of the field along the rail and Blackwaterfoot travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages of the race. As the field turned for home and the pace lifted, the race favoured those in prominent positions, who fought out the finish. Those ridden off the pace couldn’t get involved. Blackwaterfoot stayed on at the one pace for eighth and is sure to come on for this reappearance.

After the race, jockey Pierre-Louis Jamin gave us his verdict on the performance:

“He actually ran better than it looked. He jumped very well out the gate, there was loads of pace on early , I tried to get him tucked in and travelling. I felt like the track here didn’t really play to his strengths. He probably wants a big galloping track, probably back on the grass with soft ground. He ran better than it looks , he ran on at the end and got a bit tired towards the line. I think he’ll win again for you.”

Assistant trainer Charlie Pike reported the following morning:

“He’s dried off! It was a very wet evening, he’s a little bit sore this morning which I did expect, I’m not too concerned. I think he has ran ok considering the early pace didn’t help him. He hasn’t disgraced himself , it was good to get him back out and he will definitely come on for that run.”

With that run under his belt, we’re confident Blackwaterfoot can recapture the form he showed when winning at Ffos Las in July. We look forward to seeing him back out in the near future.
