Brodie’s Boy Frustrates At Wolverhampton – Race Report

Brodie’s Boy put in a frustrating performance on Thursday at Wolverhampton, in a race that wasn’t run to suit.

The race didn’t quite unfold as we had high hopes for Brodie’s Boy. We had been anticipating a strong-paced race that would’ve suited Brodie, who stays well rather than finishing in a sprint. Sent off as 12/1, we were confident Brodie’s would have at least placed, and he started the race well. After settling in mid-division, he travelled through the race well, but he just struggled with the sprint in the final furlong to eventually finish 9th, six lengths off the winner Haku.

After the race, jockey Sean D Bowen gave us his summary:

“He broke well and there was plenty of pace on in the early stages. I thought as we turned in he was going to pick up again, but he failed to kick on and just started to weaken out of it. I wouldn’t be afraid to put cheekpieces on him next time out as I think it could help him focus a bit more, and you could ride him closer to the pace.”

Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:

“He travelled home well last night and has eaten up his breakfast and trotted up sound and well this morning. I was a little bit disappointed with his run – I was hoping he would’ve been a bit more handy and the jockey did go quite easy on him. The jockey did mention about putting cheekpieces on him next time out, which is an option we could consider for him.”

Brodie’s is set to return to Wolverhampton in a couple of weeks, and we’re hopeful of a much-improved performance there!
