Farceur Du Large Makes Seasonal Reappearance At Newbury – Race Report

Farceur Du Large made a pleasing seasonal reappearance at Newbury on Saturday, finishing seventh in a competitive race in conditions that weren’t ideal for him.

With FDL’s best performances coming over a longer trip and on softer ground, he was always going to be up against it at Newbury on Saturday. He raced towards the rear of the field but jumped well throughout and once there was little chance of him winning, jockey Gavin Sheehan prioritised getting him home safe. He eventually finished a well-beaten seventh, but will no doubt come on for the run and the plan remains to send him back to the Military races at Sandown in 2025.

Trainer Jamie Snowden reported after the race:

“The ground wasn’t soft enough for him on Saturday, and the trip was shorter than ideal, but he’ll certainly come on for the run. Fingers crossed that the handicapper will drop him a couple of pounds, and if so, all roads will lead back to Sandown for the Military races!”

We have no doubt that ‘Frank the Tank’ will improve for his seasonal reappearance, and fingers crossed we’ll see him bid to retain his crown in the Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown in January 2025!
