Handlethekettle put in another fantastic round of jumping to maintain his 100% record at Worcester, running out a game winner on Monday 7th July.
Having made all to win over C&D just 19 days earlier, jockey Gavin Sheehan applied similar front-running tactics here, racing wide but always in front throughout. His jumping was immaculate, and despite facing a couple of challenges in the run-in, he didn’t let a rival pass him and eventually ran out a ½ length winner over My Chiquita.
After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He was absolutely brilliant today. He was relaxed, but that was the best he has ever jumped – it was the best ride he’s given me to date. He’s gaining in confidence and it was a nice strong gallop, but we could go even quicker again in the future.”
Trainer Jamie Snowden reported the following morning:
“I was thrilled with his performance yesterday – his jumping was immaculate and he galloped on strongly to the line. I expect he will appreciate going up in trip further in the future, and the way he jumped yesterday does bode well for him jumping fences in the future too – there’s plenty more for him to achieve over hurdles first though.”
This took Handlethekettle’s record over hurdles to four wins from just six races, with the only defeats coming on hurdles debut and in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle. He’s improving with each run, and we cannot wait to watch him progress again next time out.
