Letmelivemylife Frustrates At Chelmsford – Race Report 24/02/24

William Cox and Barry Brennan

Letmelivemylife put in an underwhelming performance on Saturday, but with the handicapper set to drop him further in the weights, he should be seen to much better effect in his next races.

Having been sent off a 9/1 shot at Chelmsford, connections were quietly confident of another good run for Lemmy, but the race sadly wasn’t run to suit and he finished 8th. Having been held towards the rear of the field, he gave himself little chance of winning, with four of the first five home all racing prominently towards the front.

Jockey William Cox said after the race:

He’s jumped well, the plan was to drop him in anyway, but as soon as I’ve taken a pull into him, he just spat his dummy out and dropped the bridle. When we turned into the straight he did drop his head and try to make an effort, but he couldn’t gain any ground on those in front. I think we need to be more aggressive with him next time and sit him nearer the front, to make his mind up for him. He should be able to drop down into a 0-75 handicap race which will be a big plus to his chances.”

The morning after the race, trainer Barry Brennan reported:

“Lemmy is fine this morning after his disappointing race yesterday. It was a strong race for him and once he got checked a couple of times by horses in front, he was left in an awkward position which put paid to any serious chance he had. The positives from the race are he’s safe and sound, and will now drop further down the weights, which should mean he can compete in lesser grade races.”

Letmelivemylife continues to frustrate but once he will be down to his lowest rating for almost a year and it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s back in the winner’s enclosure. Fingers crossed!
