After an absence of nearly 300 days, Lightningboltzoom ran an encouraging race at Wolverhampton on the 6th January.
It was also a landmark day for Charlie Pike, who saddled his first ever runner. Now a fully licensed trainer, he operates from the historic Danebury Stables in Hampshire.
Lightningboltzoom broke well from stall three under Harry Davies and was settled in midfield, tucked in behind the leading group who went a strong gallop. He travelled nicely through the early stages and there were few changes in the order until turning for home, when the tempo increased. He briefly appeared outpaced and came under a more forceful ride from Harry to rally from the rear, but he responded well, staying on to finish fifth. The well-supported favourite Fools Rush In took the race, scoring by a length and three-quarters. This was a promising first run back after an absence for our gelding, who is sure to take plenty of benefit from the outing and looks likely to improve for the step up in trip.
After the race, jockey Harry Davies gave us his summary:
“He relaxed nicely. They were going too hard in front and I always knew they would come back. He found a good rhythm but did get a little bit outpaced. I was confident he would hit the line and he did. I would go further with him, he was only just getting going at the line. I think he will come forward for the run because he had a nice blow.”
Trainer Charlie Pike reported after the race:
“This was a pleasing first run back. He was definitely rusty but it was good to see him hit the line running and finish off strong. We know he wants further but he needed a blow and a confidence boost which I think we have achieved. We will look to get him out again soon at one mile two or one mile four furlongs depending on the track.”
This was an encouraging run from Lightningboltzoom, who is sure to improve for the outing. We look forward to seeing him back on the track soon.
