Royal Ascot has delivered another fantastic week of racing, and there’s still one more day to enjoy, with four Group contests on the card. As ever, it’s a fiendishly difficult puzzle for punters, while there are plenty of other betting opportunities to be found beyond the Berkshire track.
14:06 Down Royal – VAUNTINGLY (11/8 Generally)
One of the stories of the week has been the outstanding form of Joseph O’Brien, and VAUNTINGLY can provide him with another success. She was sent off favourite on her debut but was slightly disappointing in finishing third. However, she showed the benefit of that experience when taking a marked step forward on her second start, finishing runner-up behind Sparan Nut and ahead of a well-fancied rival who has since come out and won.
The strength of that form has been franked in no uncertain terms, with Sparan Nut remaining unbeaten in three starts and going on to land a Group 3 contest. That leaves Vauntingly with the standout piece of form in the race, and if she can reproduce that effort, or find more improvement on just her third career start, she looks capable of getting off the mark. The step up in trip should suit, and she should go close in a weak race.
18:20 Doncaster – SEVEN SISTERS (10/11 Generally)
This looks a very good opportunity for Ralph Beckett’s Kingman filly to get off the mark for Royal Ascot-winning owners Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy.
SEVEN SISTERS made an encouraging start to her career when finishing a close second to a subsequent winner at Salisbury before again shaping well when beaten just a neck into third in what appears to have been a decent maiden at Wolverhampton.
Those efforts set a solid standard in the context of this race. Further progress looks likely, and the step up in trip should suit. She should prove very hard to beat, and I would be disappointed if she failed to open her account here.
