Racing fans welcome back! We have some good racing this weekend coming from Haydock and I have three selections for you to look at. The first is my best bet of the day and this is a horse that goes very well first time out. The ground has fallen in his favour too and hopefully we can get off to a good start. I have two further selections for you from Haydock in the two races that follow and I am hoping we have a good day. Whatever you do, please of course gamble responsibly, and let’s have some winners!
2:23 Haydock – JASOUR *NAP* (10/3 generally)
The Achilles Stakes over 5 furlongs looks to be a competitive enough race, but I do think there is a standout selection in here. No Half Measures will likely come on for her first start of the season and race fitness should see her run to her best number. That may not be enough to beat JASOUR though, who is my selection. He’s a flashy colt who is relatively inconsistent, but his best runs come first time out, and that makes him very dangerous here. He is probably better suited to six furlongs which is the trip he won his Group races at, but he is full of speed and the slight drop back to five furlongs shouldn’t be a concern. I think he will take some stopping on his first start of the season.
2:58 Haydock – BEAUTIFUL LOVE (7/2 generally)
Next up we have a Group 3 for the fillies and I am a big fan of the Godolphin trained BEAUTIFUL LOVE. She doesn’t win as much as she should, but she is well travelled and has gone close in very good races. Those efforts put her at the top of the ratings in this race and her best run to date did actually come over this trip last season. There are a few inconsistent runners in this field that are hard to trust, but this Godolphin filly has been pretty consistent and clearly hasn’t reached the ceiling of her ability yet. With connections in such great form of late, this progressive filly could have too much for her rivals here.
3:33 Haydock – KINROSS *E/W* (5/1 generally)
In the Betfred John Gaunt Stakes we have a strong lineup as expected and you can make a case for a fair few of these. Audience and Alyanaabi are hard to split on form and both hold obvious credentials here. I do, however, feel that despite giving weight away to the field, you can have an each-way bet to nothing on KINROSS, the 8-year-old who is a proven Group winner. He does very little wrong, and I think now that he is eight, he is likely to be fully wound up for most of his racecourse starts now, which gives him very strong claims here. He’s a course and distance winner too which helps because we know he acts well here, whereas Audience for example, will be having his first start at Haydock. I think Kinross is overpriced at 5/1 and I will back him on a price basis here. He should be finishing in the first three.
