Love You Millions put in another promising performance on her third career start, finishing fifth at Southwell on Tuesday 2nd September. As this was her third run, she will now receive a handicap mark next week, which should allow her to race much more competitively against similar level opposition in handicap races moving forward.
Sent off as a 50/1 outsider for the race, Love You Millions behaved well in the stalls and broke well, showing plenty of early pace, as she has done in each of her races to date. She was part of the four in the field who pulled clear of the others in the early stages, and there was only one runner who managed to catch ‘Millie’ from those who came from off the pace. She eventually finished fifth, which was another excellent effort, considering the first three home were the top three in the betting.
After the race, jockey Aidan Keeley gave us his verdict on the performance:
“I was very happy with her, and I think she ran a good race. She was nice and relaxed down to post and was calm when she got down to the start, which is obviously a positive. She broke out well and pulled her way towards the front through the first few furlongs. She didn’t quite stop, but she just got outbattled a little bit and kept on at her own pace. She’s definitely going in the right direction though, and I’m sure once she goes handicapping we’ll see her in a better light.”
Assistant Trainer Charlie Pike reported the following morning:
“I was really pleased with how she ran yesterday in what was her toughest race to date. She ran as expected, with the right horses in front of her and the right horses behind her. She’s definitely making progress behaviour-wise – she was a credit to herself the whole time we were there, from travelling up and saddling, to in the stalls and during the race. We’ll receive a handicap mark for her on Tuesday, which will hopefully be around the 45-50 mark, and we can make a plan from there once we know what mark she has.”
Love You Millions will now receive her opening handicap mark next Tuesday (9th September), and we can’t wait to watch her progress in handicaps – fingers crossed she has a bright future ahead of her!
