Unknown Journey was unable to land a blow in the 17:15 on Wednesday 28th April, an eleven-runner Class 6 handicap over a mile.
Unknown Journey, sent off at 50/1, broke well from stall eight under William Carson. However, he never really travelled comfortably through the race, coming under pressure early and being ridden along throughout before facing stronger pressure turning into the straight. He gradually weakened to finish eleventh.
After the race, it emerged that he had suffered an overreach on his near fore, which likely prevented him from showing his true form.
After the race, jockey William Carson gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He jumped out great and got a lovely tow into the race. He didn’t finish off his race and that isn’t him, he’s much better than that. He has given me a much better feel than that through the winter and just hasn’t performed today.”
Trainer Tony Carroll reported the following day:
“Unknown Journey was very disappointing. He has an overreach on his near fore which looks like it could have caused him to run like that. He looks ok and has eaten up so apart from that he is fine. It is a nasty little niggle and hopefully in a few days it will be better.”
Unknown Journey has had a busy winter and given his owners some great days at the racecourse. Unfortunately, this minor injury meant he couldn’t perform at his best on this occasion, but he can now enjoy some time to recover, and we look forward to seeing him back in action soon, perhaps on turf.
