What Is Newmarket Racecourse’s Address?

Newmarket has two racecourses, so visitors should check which course is hosting their chosen fixture before travelling.

How to Get to Newmarket Racecourses

Arriving by Car

The A11 and A14 provide convenient access to Newmarket from the major cities of East Anglia, as well as from the M11, A1 and M1.

Travelling to the Rowley Mile from London: Leave the M11 at Junction 9 and join the A11 towards Newmarket and Norwich. After approximately 10 miles, branch left onto the A1304 towards Newmarket. At the roundabout, take the third exit and continue along Cambridge Road for approximately one mile before following signs for the Rowley Mile.

Travelling to the July Course: Join the A1304 towards Newmarket and take the second exit at the roundabout, following signs for the July Racecourse. Visitors are advised to avoid Newmarket High Street on racedays where possible.

Public parking is available free of charge at both courses. Dedicated Blue Badge parking is also provided, and visitors should display their badge clearly upon arrival so the parking team can direct them to the appropriate area.

Traffic can become particularly busy during festivals, Newmarket Nights and other major fixtures. Visitors should allow additional time when arriving and may need to allow up to two hours to leave the car parks following the busiest events.

Arriving by Train

Newmarket railway station is approximately 1.7 miles from the Rowley Mile and around two miles from the July Course.

Train services connect Newmarket with Cambridge, where onward connections are available to London and other major destinations. Visitors are advised to check the latest timetable before travelling.

Arriving by Bus

A complimentary shuttle bus operates on racedays between Newmarket town centre, Newmarket railway station and the racecourse hosting that day’s fixture.

The outward service begins approximately two hours before the first race. Return journeys generally begin around 45 minutes before the last race and continue for up to two hours after racing. The service does not normally need to be booked in advance.

Outrider coach services may also operate from Cambridge, Royston, Bury St Edmunds and Ely via Soham and Fordham for selected fixtures. These services should be booked in advance and availability varies by raceday.

Arriving by Taxi

Visitors are advised to book their taxi in advance, particularly when attending festivals or live music fixtures. Designated taxi and private-hire collection areas operate at both racecourses, and passengers should follow the signs and instructions provided on the day.

Arriving by Air

Stansted Airport is approximately a 35-minute drive from Newmarket Racecourses, while Cambridge Airport is approximately 15 minutes away by car.

Visitors may also arrange to arrive by helicopter or private fixed-wing aircraft. Landing must be organised in advance, and transport can be provided between the July Course landing area and the Rowley Mile on racedays.

Where to Get Tickets

Tickets for Newmarket Racecourses can be purchased online before your visit. Booking in advance is strongly recommended, particularly for popular fixtures such as Newmarket Nights, the Guineas Festival and the July Festival, as these events may sell out.

Advance tickets will usually offer the best available price. Tickets may also be available from the racecourse entrances on the day, provided the fixture and relevant enclosure have not sold out.

Visitors should check whether their chosen fixture is being held at the Rowley Mile or July Course and ensure they purchase admission for the correct enclosure.

Visitors under the age of 18 can attend most Newmarket racedays free of charge when accompanied by a parent or responsible adult aged 21 or over. Charges apply for selected fixtures, including Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live events.

Every visitor, including children, must hold a valid admission ticket. One responsible adult may accompany a maximum of three visitors aged under 18.

Both the Rowley Mile and July Course provide accessible parking, raised viewing platforms, accessible toilets and step-free access to key areas. RADAR keys are used for some accessible toilet facilities.

Visitors who require a personal assistant may apply for one complimentary admission ticket after purchasing their own ticket. Applications and supporting documentation should be submitted to the racecourse in advance, as personal assistant tickets may not be available on the day.

Newmarket Racecourse Enclosures

Premier Enclosure

The Premier Enclosure places racegoers at the heart of the action, with excellent race viewing close to the winning post and access to the pre-parade ring, parade ring and winners’ enclosure.

Facilities include grandstand viewing with limited cover, bars, food outlets, restaurants, betting facilities, Wi-Fi and accessible race viewing. Premier Enclosure ticket holders can also access the Grandstand & Paddock and Garden Enclosures, subject to capacity restrictions on selected events.

Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure

The Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure offers good views of the racing and access to the pre-parade ring, parade ring and winners’ enclosure.

Visitors can use a variety of food stands, bars and betting facilities, together with grandstand areas offering limited cover. Access to after-racing entertainment and concerts may also be included on selected fixtures.

Garden Enclosure

The Garden Enclosure offers a more relaxed and informal race-day experience. Visitors may bring picnics, chairs, tables and blankets, although seating supplied within the enclosure is limited.

Race viewing is more restricted from this area, with much of the action shown on large screens. Garden Enclosure ticket holders do not have access to the pre-parade ring, parade ring or winners’ enclosure and cannot enter the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures during racing unless an upgrade is purchased.

The Rowley

Introduced at the Rowley Mile for 2026, The Rowley offers racegoers strong views of the racing alongside a lively atmosphere close to the action.

Champions Lawn

Available at the July Course between June and August, Champions Lawn provides a premium private trackside experience. The landscaped area includes a private bar, toilets and seating and is suited to groups, families and friends looking for an upgraded summer raceday.

What to Wear

Newmarket Racecourses does not normally operate a strict general dress code. Visitors are encouraged to choose an outfit that makes them feel comfortable and confident throughout their day.

Jeans, clean trainers, sweatshirts, tailored shorts and polo shirts are all acceptable. Those attending a major meeting may prefer to dress for the occasion in a smart suit, glamorous dress or heels.

Much of both racecourses is outdoors, so visitors should check the weather forecast and select suitable clothing and footwear. Layers and an umbrella may be useful when the weather is expected to be changeable.

Fancy dress may be permitted, provided it is not offensive, inappropriate or likely to cause disruption. Visitors are also asked to avoid wearing football shirts, team colours and replica sports kits.

Food and Drink

Newmarket Racecourses offers a wide selection of bars, restaurants and food outlets across both the Rowley Mile and July Course. The facilities available may vary according to the fixture and enclosures operating on the day.

The Rowley Mile

Food and drink facilities at the Rowley Mile include Little Italy, serving wood-fired pizza and Italian-inspired dishes, and the Gallop Inn, a relaxed pub-style space offering drinks, live music and games.

The Devil’s Dyke serves a selection of freshly prepared curries, sandwiches, fish and chips, roast dishes and cakes. Other outlets include the Lester Piggott, Aroma Coffee and a variety of bars serving beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

The Boulevard Courtyard features street-food concessions and themed bars, while visitors seeking a formal dining experience can book the panoramic Champions Gallery Restaurant.

The July Course

The July Course offers numerous food outlets, including pizza, burgers, noodles, hog roast, fish and chips, coffee, ice cream and other popular race-day options.

Visitors can also choose from a range of bars, including the Sweet Solera Bar, Adnams Southwold Bar, Chief Singer Bar, Cocktail Paddock and Gin & Fizz.

Mozart’s Bistro provides a more relaxed walk-in dining option, while the Summer House Restaurant offers private tables, attentive service and a selection of hospitality packages.

Picnics

Picnics may be enjoyed within the Garden Enclosure or racecourse car parks. The Garden Enclosure is not open at every fixture and can sell out during popular summer meetings, so visitors should check availability before travelling.

Outside food and drink cannot be taken into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures. Alcohol brought into the Garden Enclosure must accompany a substantial picnic and is subject to the racecourse’s quantity and container restrictions.

Newmarket operates as a cashless venue for admission, food and drink. Cash may still be used when placing bets with on-course bookmakers and betting facilities.
