Letmelivemylife Frustrates At Kempton – Race Report

Letmelivemylife put in another frustrating performance on Monday evening at Kempton, as he yet again failed to put in a performance we know he is capable of.

Seen by the bookies as an outsider in the race, he was sent off at 22/1 and jumped out of the stalls well. Jockey William Cox sat him in behind the front runners and kept his early position next to the race throughout the race. After travelling well throughout the race, William asked Lemmy for his effort with just under two furlongs to go, but Lemmy failed to pick up and faded into ninth place.

Jockey William Cox said after the race:

“He still ran ok and at the two-furlong pole I thought we were just going to pick them off one by one, but as soon as he got to them he just spat the dummy out. He’s a buzzy horse and I think he could benefit from having an apprentice on board next time, so he feels he’s in control. The ability is certainly there, it’s just mentally that he’s struggling with at the moment.”

The morning after the race, trainer Paul Attwater reported:

“He ate up well and trotted up sound this morning, which is good news. He tried his heart out again last night and he looked all set to run a big race when the gap opened for him, but he just didn’t fancy it and failed to pick up. I’m still confident that he’ll get back to winning ways soon – he will just wait until he’s ready before he shows us the level of performance we know he can produce.”

The handicapper will likely drop Lemmy again after this performance, and he’s already extremely well-handicapped, so it should only be a matter of time before he puts it all together and gets back in the winners’ enclosure.
