On just his second start under Rules, Jukebox King produced another encouraging performance to finish fourth in a competitive novices’ hurdle at Market Rasen on 1st February.
Jukebox King took on six rivals over 2m4½f and settled in third along the rail. His jumping was once again excellent, and he travelled smoothly throughout. He was part of a leading group of five that pulled well clear of the remainder, and as they turned into the straight Harry Bannister asked for an effort. The eventual winner, Cinquenta, trained by Jamie Snowden, travelled best and quickened clear to score impressively. Jukebox King appeared briefly outpaced before running on to finish fourth, but once again shaped very well and showed plenty of promise.
After the race, jockey Harry Bannister gave us his verdict on the performance:
“Really happy with that, a really solid run in a competitive race.I found myself a bit further forward than I ideally would have liked to, but he took me there with his jumping, he jumped great. He probably hasn’t seen it out all the way to the line because he has been run down late for third. Very happy, a very solid run and he will get his handicap mark now. Chasing will be his game.”
Joint Trainer Mat Nicholls reported following the race :
“As Harry said, a very solid run and we are pleased with that. He will improve for this, he’s having a good blow and it has been a while since he last ran. It was another encouraging effort and we will start making plans for his next run.”
This was another pleasing effort in a competitive contest. Jukebox King may now be given a handicap mark and, on the evidence of this run, he should be very competitive in handicaps over a similar trip. We look forward to seeing him back on the racecourse soon. His owners enjoyed a fantastic day out and have plenty more to look forward to.
