We’ve seen plenty of encouraging performances in defeat in recent days, with our flat horses continuing to show consistent form. It was fantastic to see our stunning chestnut filly Sax Avoidance land two wins in just four days, and she looks an exciting prospect with plenty more to offer. Our VIP flagbearer Brosay has endured a difficult season, struggling to find his best form, but appears to have turned a corner in September. He finished a close second at Goodwood on 8th September, beaten by just a length and a half, before going one better in his next start on 23rd September with another strong effort. He appears to be back to his old self, showing his trademark strong finishing effort, and is certainly well handicapped. He looks capable of adding another win to his already impressive record.
From Me To You has had a busy season and produced his best effort to date at Wolverhampton on 18th September under Alec Voikhansky. Stepping up to seven furlongs, he showed his usual slowness out of the gate but soon found a decent position in midfield and moved through the race nicely, travelling strongly as they turned into the straight. He picked up well and kept on to the line for a three-quarter-length third, unable to reach the front two who had been prominent throughout. He was unfortunate to be caught on the wrong side of the track at Southwell but still ran respectably to finish sixth. If he can reproduce his Wolverhampton effort, hopefully it won’t be long before he gets his head in front.
On the same day, 18th September, Redbud Sixteen and Lucky Luna both headed to Newbury, where they were supported by a healthy number of passionate Racing Club owners. Redbud Sixteen was first to run, partnered by leading jockey Colin Keane and attempting to carry top weight to victory and record her third success of the season. She made a bold bid from the front and led for a long way, but was headed just over a furlong out and kept on well for fourth, beaten only a length and three quarters in a competitive race.
Lucky Luna lined up in the last race of the day, another competitive contest, partnered by Joe Leavy. She travelled into the straight well but had to wait for room and was slightly hampered, resulting in her losing position at an important stage of the race. She kept on to finish fifth and was far from disgraced, particularly on ground that was probably a little quicker than ideal for her.
Love Always made her second career start at Southwell on 26th September and showed more than she had on her Kempton debut. She was much more relaxed in the stalls and broke well, showing good early speed. She remained in touch with the leaders but challenged on the unfavoured part of the track and faded to finish eighth. She ran well for a long way and can be expected to continue her development as she gains experience.
