It has certainly been a memorable few days for the VIP owners involved with our flashy chestnut, Sax Avoidance, who delivered two impressive performances at Salisbury and Kempton. She showed clear progression across three runs in maiden and novice company, but has taken a big step forward since switching to handicaps. She has always been an impressive filly to look at, so it has been great to see her deliver on that promise on the track and it certainly seems like she has more to offer.

Her first success came on handicap debut at Salisbury on Friday 11th September, where she made all to dominate her nine rivals and win by three lengths on soft ground under Kieren Fox. She travelled strongly in front, found plenty when ridden and kept on well inside the final furlong to win in taking fashion.
Turned out just three days later at Kempton, over a furlong further under the same rider, she adopted the same tactics and once again made all. This time she had to dig much deeper when challenged inside the final furlong, but showed a good attitude to fend off the runner-up and win by a neck. The front two pulled six lengths clear of the remainder, and the way she battled on when under pressure was particularly encouraging.
Jockey Kieren Fox spoke after her second victory:
“Charlie and the team deserve a lot of credit, getting her back three days later after winning on testing ground, up a furlong in trip. She enjoyed it and she was tough and game.”
After the races, trainer Charlie Pike gave us an update:
“I have been really happy with how she has come out of her two quick runs. They were two great performances and I am happy with her mark of 74 so we will have a look at some next options for her. She can still improve from this.”
