Lord d’Or Makes Promising Debut At Kempton – Race Report

Lord d’Or showed plenty of promise on his racecourse debut at Kempton on Wednesday 7th August, staying on strongly in the closing stages to leave owners excited to see what the future holds for our latest flat star.

Having been drawn widest of all in stall 13, the plan was always to settle him towards the rear of the field and hope to finish strongly in the final stages, and that was exactly how it panned out. Lord d’Or broke slowly out of the stalls and raced wide during the early stages, before jockey Oisin Murphy sat him just behind midfield as they began to turn the bend. Once hitting the home straight, he stayed on well in the final stages to eventually finish sixth, but failed to catch the front pair, who pulled well clear of the remainder of the field. It is worth remembering this was his first run, so he will undoubtedly come on for the experience.

After the race, jockey Oisin Murphy gave us his verdict on the performance:

“He broke fine but he was drawn wide and got a little bit outpaced into the first turn. I was happy for him to just find his feet towards the back of the field, and he steadily progressed all the way to the line, which is exactly what I was hoping for with him. I thought he ran a nice race and has plenty of potential – I look forward to seeing him back in action with this run under his belt.”

Trainer Andrew Balding reported the following morning:

“I was pleased with the performance on debut from Lord d’Or – I expect him to come on significantly for the run, and we’ll likely look to step him up to a mile next time out.”

This was a promising effort from Lord d’Or on debut and leaves us eagerly awaiting his next run – he looks set for an extremely exciting future!
