It was great to get a winner on the board at Lingfield last week with Bintknight, who showed a really good attitude from the front, making all and battling well to fend off her challengers. Unfortunately, Apache Outlaw couldn’t quite complete the double at Galway, going down by just a head in a very close finish. It’s a quieter affair for us this week, but there are still plenty of competitive races to enjoy, particularly at Ascot and Haydock.
13:50 Haydock – BRIGHTON VIEW (10/11 Generally)
BRIGHTON VIEW looks to have a good opportunity to continue his fine form. He was an impressive seven-length winner at Yarmouth on Sunday, beating two respectable rivals, having previously made a successful handicap debut at Newbury in May.
He carries a 6lb penalty for that latest success, but there looks to be further improvement in him and he could still be ahead of his revised mark. He was well backed at Yarmouth and won with plenty in hand, showing a good turn of foot when the race developed into a sprint, so the drop back in trip shouldn’t be an issue. He also showed his effectiveness over this distance when finishing a good second in stronger company at Doncaster. With Oisin Murphy booked for the in-form William Knight team, he looks to have every chance of winning again.
14:45 Ascot – NIGHT BREEZE (4/1 Generally)
Despite this being a relatively competitive contest, it still looks a nice opportunity for NIGHT BREEZE to gain a deserved success after a string of good efforts. The six-year-old rarely runs a bad race and has been holding his own in some strong Class 2 handicaps.
He was a convincing winner over this trip in Class 3 company at Epsom in April and has continued to run well since. He pulled five and a half lengths clear of the remainder when second at the same venue on Derby day, finished runner-up again at Newmarket and produced probably his best effort of the season when an eye-catching third of seventeen in the Chesterfield Cup at Glorious Goodwood, beaten just a length over 1m2f.
The return to 1m4f should suit, while his record at Ascot is another big positive, having won twice over course and distance in 2025, including this race. Although he doesn’t look particularly well handicapped, the booking of the excellent Dylan Browne McMonagle is a big positive, and a repeat of his Goodwood effort should see him go very close.
