After showing real promise in his bumper, Legendary Luke took a big step forward with a superb and authoritative first run over hurdles. To buy shares in Legendary Luke click HERE.
Legendary Luke was sent off the 9/2 second favourite behind a well-backed 4/7 market leader. Settling beautifully for Gavin Sheehan, he moved into a clear second and jumped exceptionally well apart from a few little mistakes, which he recovered from quickly with a fantastic attitude. He travelled nicely and took the lead with a great jump in the back straight. As the field closed up approaching the second last, Gavin steadied him into it and, after jumping it in front, Luke came under a challenge from the Sean Bowen–ridden favourite. Rising to the occasion, he and Gavin attacked the final flight with purpose, producing a superb leap to land a length clear. From there he found plenty under pressure, staying on well to score by a comfortable length and a half, eased down at the line.
After the race, jockey Gavin Sheehan gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He was brilliant. I wanted to take a lead on him, he’s still a bit green and raw but he jumped great. He’s got a really good attitude and I always felt in control up the straight. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with him.”
Trainer Jamie Snowden reported following the race:
“That was wonderful, it really was. He seems fine after the race. I thought he travelled really well behind the leaders, his jumping was exceptional, apart from going down on his head and hitting the next one after that, but bar that his jumping was good. He hit the line really hard, a great first run over hurdles. He is a horse to really look forward to over fences but we will have a lot of fun over hurdles. “
This was a hugely taking performance from Luke, one that points to a very exciting future. We can’t wait to see what comes next.
