Tiny Rebel put in a super performance on his second handicap start, staying on well in the final stages to finish third at Southwell on Saturday 15th February.
Having broken well out of the stalls, jockey Eddie Greatrex got Tiny into a good rhythm towards the rear of the field, where he stayed until hitting the home straight. Switched towards the stands rail, he started to make good headway and gradually picked off his rivals one by one. With the front pair pulling well clear, Tiny failed to reel them in but did the best of the rest to finish third.
After the race, jockey Eddie Greatrex gave us his verdict on the performance:
“He’s ran a great race there. Just down the straight, he hung left, which is a sign he’s still inexperienced and learning every day. It feels like he’s improving and that was a really encouraging performance.”
Trainer Paul Attwater reported the following morning:
“I was really pleased with the performance, especially with how he plugged on in the latter stages of the race. I’m hopeful the handicapper will drop him 1-2lbs and we can go again very soon.”
This was another step in the right direction with Tiny Rebel, and with improvement on the cards, it surely won’t be long until he gains that elusive win!
