Ollie Sangster is widely regarded as one of the most promising young trainers in British racing. His early grounding came in the United States, where he gained valuable experience on the Keeneland and Saratoga backstretch under Wesley Ward, shaping his understanding of speed, conditioning, and race planning.
He later continued his education in Europe, spending time with leading Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien at his County Kilkenny base, alongside further experience with trainers including David Hayes in Melbourne, Hugo Palmer in Newmarket and Charlie Hills in Lambourn—building a strong foundation across major racing centres.
Ollie now trains from Manton House Stables, one of the most historic and prestigious yards in the world. Established in 1860, Manton has produced winners of more than 50 Classic races and remains a training base synonymous with excellence. The Sangster family has been closely associated with Manton since Robert Sangster acquired the estate in 1984, and it has been home to numerous top-level trainers and Group 1 winners over the decades.
Ollie has made an impressive start to his training career. In his first season, Shuwari quickly announced the yard on the big stage, winning the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown and finishing second in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile. In 2024, he increased his winners significantly and took his annual prize-money total to £500,000. Simmering added further highlights, winning the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot and the Group 2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville, before finishing second in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
